How a call actually goes

One line, opened in the right order

A drain either runs or it does not. Everything below is what happens between those two states, in the order it happens.

We open the line where it is meant to be opened

Before anything goes down a pipe, we find the cleanout and read what is actually backing up. One slow sink is a trap or a branch line. A tub and a toilet going together is the main. Which fixture fails tells us where to start, and starting in the right place is most of the job.

Out to the length the line needs, not to the first thing that gives

A blockage will often let a cable through and close again behind it. We run the line out properly and pull back through it, so what is left is the full bore of the pipe rather than a hole punched down the middle of the grease.

The last part of a drain call is the part people remember. The fixture runs, the cleanout is capped, and the apron is rinsed down. Nothing is left on the ground for you to deal with after we have gone.

Questions we get asked on the phone

Usually not. When a single fixture is slow and the rest of the house is fine, the blockage is in that fixture's trap or its branch line. It is when a tub and a toilet back up together, or when running the washing machine brings water up somewhere else, that the main line is the thing to look at.

Yes. Root removal is part of what we do on both residential and commercial lines. Roots find the sewer because it is the wettest thing in the yard, and they get in at the joints rather than through the pipe wall. A line that has rooted once will root again, so knowing your line has them is part of the job.
